Another MMO ditches the subscription model and goes completely free.

If you've ever been curious to dabble your MMO curiousity with fantasy game RIFT, now might be the perfect time. You can go right here, download the game client, and start playing... for free.
While the game started with a purchase/subscription model, it's today officially discarded that in favour playing for free, but offering premium services and extras for cash-dollars.
The change is part of the game's 2.3 update, which brings in new plot and a host of other changes to the base game. Players now earn exchange points for store credits, but paying for an actual subscription delivers faster progression, a store discount, faster mounts, and more. There are even subs-only in-game events to take part in, but if you don't want to spend anything, you still have the vast majority of the RIFT world to explore.
